One Carrington, Mayfair, London
Client: Motcomb Estates
Brief: Apartment Wayfinding Design
Sector: Residential
One Carrington is a super-prime residential development located in Mayfair, one of London’s most exclusive addresses. Comprising 28 apartments across seven floors, the building offers a range of resident amenities. Below ground there are three basement levels providing parking for residents as well neighbouring developments and contract customers.
In addition to complying with Fire Safety regulations the wayfinding needed to fit the wider design context and meet the expectations of a highly discerning audience. Designed by award winning practice Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, the architecture with its interesting design detail and bespoke finishes provided a rich furrow to spark the imagination. The resulting design for the wayfinding components reflects the faceted facade on the external elevations and the angular finishes within the internal joinery.
Rather than panels, the wayfinding signs are made up of individual characters. Fabricator Ascot Signs rose to the challenge, producing CNC cut faceted letters, numbers and symbols, using a bespoke antique Carrington bronze finish, to reflect the material used within the ironmongery
The Velvet Principle also worked with the wider team to ensure the emergency egress signs met the quality requirements – implementing a common approach to font and style that unified all the signs, without compromising on the statutory requirements.
