n2 Offices, London: Sustainable Wayfinding Design

Brief:     Sustainable Wayfinding Design
Client:    Landsec
Sector:   Offices

The latest addition to the Nova development in Victoria, n2 will deliver 160,000 sq ft of office space across 18 floors. As well as a large open reception area with a coffee bar to encourage informal meetings, other amenities include a communal club lounge on the 15th floor and cycle sparking, showers and changing rooms within the basement.

The design was directly inspired by the architecture and the signature V-shaped struts that characterise the external design of the building. With the curve at the apex reflected in the angles of the directional arrows. To ensure continuity throughout, the graphic style was applied to the digital lift control conent.

The signs needed to work on a range of different finishing and align with the client’s sustainability and wellness targets – BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Core Gold. To meet these requirements the design minimised the volume of material by applying the information as individual characters directly to the building surfaces.  To further enhance the sustainability credentials, the material selected – Richlite is made from recycled paper.

This design approach has been calculated as saving approximately 4 tonnes of carbon, when compared with using more traditional materials such as stainless steel. With estimated C02 emission of 0.59 tonnes, this equates to just under 90% carbon saving.
