n2 Offices, London: Sustainable Wayfinding Design

Brief:     Sustainable Wayfinding Design
Client:    Landsec
Sector:   Offices

Part of the Nova development in Victoria, n2 offers 160,000 sq ft of office space across 18 floors. Amenities include a large open reception area with a coffee bar to encourage informal meetings, a communal lounge, as well as cycle parking, showers and changing rooms within the basement.

The design of the signs was inspired by the architecture and the signature V-shaped struts that characterise  external views of the building. With the curve at the apex reflected in the angles of the directional arrows. To ensure continuity throughout, the graphic style was applied to the digital lift control content.

The signs needed to work on a range of different finishing and meet the client’s sustainability and wellness targets – BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Core Gold. To minimise material usage, the information is applied as individual characters directly onto the building surfaces. The material – Richlite is made from recycled paper.

This design approach has been calculated as saving approximately 4 tonnes of carbon, when compared with using more traditional materials such as stainless steel. With estimated C02 emission of 0.59 tonnes, this equates to approaching a 90% carbon saving.
